published by the Association of Children's Welfare Agencies (ACWA) and NSW Family Services
(FamS), and is the leading Australasian journal for the child, youth and family services sector.
Contributors include Judy Cashmore (University of Sydney), Anne Graham (Southern Cross
University), Michelle Townsend (Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute), Trish McNamara
(University of Melbourne), Andrew Harvey (La Trobe University), Sarah Wise (University of

Residential Child and Youth Care in a Developing World four volume ebook series on residential (and
foster) care, has now been published as a print version. Iain's chapter explores key historical
developments in New Zealand, provides an overview of contemporary care services, and discusses
the then anticipated Ministerial directed organisational restructuring of care services.

At a ceremony in Dunedin, Iain Matheson graduates from the University of Otago
as a Doctor of Education (EdD). As further recognition, his thesis on care leavers who went to
university, was also deemed by the University to be 'exceptional'.

His qualitative thesis entitled Slipping down ladders and climbing up snakes concerns the experiences of New Zealand university students who were in state care as children. ‘Be With Baby’ is approved as a Matheson Associates NGO organisational capability and capacity building programme organisation. ‘Be With Baby’ is a Manawatu-based groupwork programme for children (0-4 years) and their mothers affected by family violence; it is a community collaboration between ARCS (Abuse Rape Crisis Support) Manawatu, Barnardos, Midcentral DHB, Te ArohaNoa, Te Runanga O Raukawa and Palmerston North Women’s Refuge.

Iain Matheson delivers the inaugural Every Child Matters webinar on foster family recruitment to 400 Canadian delegates. Entitled Foster family recruitment: What the international research tells us, this webinar critically explores in a very accessible way, the current research evidence on what has been found to "work' in relation to foster family recruitment. Every Child Matters Strengthening Foster Families in Canada is a three year project dedicated to improving foster family recruitment, retention and training practices by collecting and disseminating information, tools and best practices from around Canada. Every Child Matters is a 3 year partnership between the Child Welfare League of Canada and the Canadian Foster Family Association and is funded by the Government of Canada's Social Development Partnership Program. Following the presentation of his doctoral research proposal at a University of Otago College of Education confirmation seminar, Iain Matheson is formally confirmed as a Doctor of Education (EdD) candidate. His part-time qualitative study is on the education experiences of New Zealand University students with a residential or foster care background.
